Eyüp goes to prison, leaving behind his wife, Hacer (Hatice Aslan), and his resentful, aimless son, İsmail (Rıfat Köse). The pact—the agreement to "see no evil" (the crime), "hear no evil" (the truth), and "speak no evil" (the confession)—is meant to be a clean transaction. Ceylan spends the next 100 minutes showing us that such transactions are impossible.
