Hall synthesized Western Hermeticism with Tantric yoga. He taught that the pineal gland is the upper terminus of the Kundalini energy. When the serpent fire (coiled at the base of the spine) rises through the chakras, it ultimately "pierces" the pineal gland, resulting in complete enlightenment—the state where man becomes God, seeing through the Eye of God.
: He references René Descartes' belief that the pineal gland is the principal seat of the soul because it is the only part of the brain that is not duplicated in pairs.
Hall integrated Eastern philosophy seamlessly. In yogic traditions, the Ajna chakra (third eye) is located between the eyebrows—directly behind which, anatomically, sits the pineal gland. When this chakra opens, one achieves Darshan (vision of the divine). Hall called this the "Eye of God" because, through it, one sees not with physical sight but with intuitive, universal consciousness.
