Adobe is aware of the UXP homescreen loading issue across Creative Cloud apps (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign). However, because the causes vary (local cache, GPU drivers, security software), an automated patch is difficult. The UXP framework is designed to be "web-like," meaning it is sensitive to local environmental factors that Adobe cannot control remotely. This is why manual intervention (the methods above) remains necessary for Photoshop 2021 users.

The Homescreen is the first thing you see when you open Photoshop (showing your recent files, Learning content, and Adobe Stock photos). In Photoshop 2021, this homescreen is essentially a web-based extension powered by UXP.

Once you have fixed the "Failed to load the UXP homescreen extension," follow these best practices to avoid a recurrence:

Try clicking the "Home" button or creating a "New Document." If the error is gone, you are all set. If the error persists, proceed to Solution 2.

Photoshop will now launch with factory default settings. Do not be alarmed if your workspaces look different; this is normal.

Ensure you have sufficient disk space, as low space can cause file system errors during plugin loading. Adobe Help Center Manual UXP Plugin Management
