In the golden age of streaming, TikTok micro-dramas, and reality TV reboots, audiences have become notoriously difficult to fool. We can spot a producer-prompted argument from a mile away. We recognize lighting setups designed to make a "spontaneous" confessional look moody. We know when a couple is manufactured for ratings.
Traditional media never talks about money. In the Real Teen Couples Club, money is a main character. Reality content sells the truth of sharing a $6 pizza and driving a car with a check engine light.
