Wolf Children was the inaugural project for Studio Chizu. Mamoru Hosoda co-founded the studio with producer Yuichiro Saito. This move granted Hosoda complete creative autonomy. Creative Team

By stripping away the conventional tropes of the fantasy genre, Hosoda forces the audience to focus on the mundane miracles of Hana’s life. We watch her struggle to keep them quiet in a thin-walled apartment, terrified of neighbors calling child services. We watch her research farming books with the same intensity she once applied to her college studies, determined to build a life for them in the countryside. Wolf Children -2012-2012

Wolf Children is not a story about wolves. It is a story about the wildness inside every human child, and the domesticity we try to impose on them.
