The Planos de Hodge are four horizontal (transverse) planes used to measure the descent of the fetal presenting part (usually the head) through the maternal pelvis. They were described by the French obstetrician Hugues Hodge in the 19th century. These planes allow the obstetrician to determine exactly how far the baby has progressed relative to the ischial spines and the pelvic inlet.
