A smaller, embossed plate that repeats the Serial Number and lists the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). This plate is often more durable than the dashboard plate because it is shielded from direct sunlight. However, it is also frequently stolen or painted over during depot rebuilds.
Start at the passenger-side dashboard plate. If that fails, go to the underside of the hood. If that is painted over, get on your back and scrub the driver’s side front frame rail. In 99% of cases, that frame stamp will be there—faint, rusty, but readable.
This is the absolute most reliable location, but it requires getting dirty and using a flashlight.
