The film follows Jazmine Biltmore (Mo’Nique), a plus-size fashion designer living in Los Angeles. Jazmine is brilliant, sharp-tongued, and deeply unhappy. She is a victim of "diet culture" before we had a name for it. She is fired from a plus-size clothing store (ironically named "Serene") for arguing with a thin customer, and she struggles to launch her own line of clothing for "real women."
