Ibn Abi al-Dunya (208–281 AH) was a prolific 9th-century scholar from Baghdad known for his deep commitment to Islamic ethics and spiritual reform. Serving as a tutor to Abbasid princes, he dedicated his life to compiling hadith and stories that encouraged simplicity, piety, and the "softening of the heart" at a time when he felt society was becoming overly focused on worldly wealth.

Ibn Abi Dunya’s works have survived for over 1,100 years because they speak to the unchanging human condition: our fear of death, our love of distractions, and our desperate need for sincerity.

This is precisely why English translations of his books are highly sought after as —readers want to download them, save them on their phones, and read them during commutes or before sleeping.

He wrote extensively on the mercy of Allah and the necessity of returning to Him. His narrations regarding the forgiveness of sins are both terrifying in their warning of Hellfire and overwhelmingly hopeful in their depiction of Allah's Grace.
