After the release of Thunder Force V on the Sega Saturn and PlayStation 1 in 1997, Tecnosoft closed its doors. The intellectual property lay dormant for years, caught in legal limbo. It wasn't until 2008 that Sega, in partnership with the Japanese developer Game Factory (composed of former Tecnosoft staff), resurrected the series for a single, glorious finale.
The original game is entirely in Japanese. However, the shmup genre requires minimal text. The menus are intuitive (Start, Options, Ship Select). If you want the story scenes translated, a fan translation patch (available via ROMhacking.net) can be applied to your ISO using a tool like Lunar IPS.
