Contrary to popular belief, ZXZ did not emerge from a major label boardroom. Its genesis can be traced to 2019 in the post-industrial city of Sheffield, UK. A collective of producers—operating under the anonymous alias “ZX-99”—began distributing white-label vinyl records through underground forums. The records had no titles, only the letters “Z, X, Z” etched into the runout groove.
