The technical reason is the API versioning. Facebook updates its servers constantly to improve security and functionality. The old BlackBerry app relied on API version 1.0 or 2.0. As Facebook migrated to Graph API v3.0 and beyond, they "deprecated" the old versions. Consequently, when the old app tries to connect to Facebook servers today, the server rejects the request.
