The first significant collection of Thundu Kathakal is often traced to (often called the "Father of Malayalam Short Story"). His 1891 piece, Vasanavikriti , broke away from the mythological and romantic traditions of the time. It was a sharp, satirical look at the vanity of the upper class. It was short. It was sharp.
