Look for an "Unknown Device" or "BMW Scanner" marked with a yellow exclamation mark. Right-click the device and select Update Driver Software "Browse my computer for driver software" "Let me pick from a list of device drivers" "Have Disk"

Get the full PA Soft 1.4.0 package from a trusted BMW forum. Inside, the driver is in the Drivers folder. Install it on Windows 7 (32-bit preferred, or 64-bit with signature enforcement disabled). Look for an "Unknown Device" or "BMW Scanner"

Update the USB chip driver. Open the scanner hardware – look for a small chip (FT232RL or PL2303). Download the latest Windows 7 driver from FTDI or Prolific's official site. Get the full PA Soft 1

Plug the BMW Scanner 1.4.0 interface into your laptop's USB port. (You do not need to be connected to the car yet).
