"Xtal" features high-frequency harmonic content that sounds like bells or glass. Many guitarists use a "Shimmer" reverb setting, which pitch-shifts the reverb tail up an octave. This is not strictly necessary for the root chords, but it adds the necessary "Aphex Twin" flavor.
