When Android 5.0 Lollipop was released in 2014, Samsung evaluated the Galaxy S3. While the device was popular, the hardware—the 1GB of RAM and the Exynos 4412 processor—was struggling to keep up with the demands of newer software. Samsung determined that the user experience on Lollipop would be too sluggish for a commercial release. Consequently, they officially ended support for the S3 at Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) or 4.4 (KitKat), depending on your region and carrier variant.
