The film opens in the late 1930s. Jan Dara (Mario Maurer), now a young man hardened by the cruelties of his stepmother, Aunt Waad, and the grotesque debauchery of his father, Khun Luang, has fled the oppressive Laptawanon mansion. He has spent years in Pattalung, living a placid, respectable life with his pregnant wife, the gentle and forgiving Kaew (Sakarat Jumrus). For a fleeting moment, domestic peace seems possible.
