The Pod Generation ((better)) 〈HD 2027〉
The film follows Rachel (Emilia Clarke) and Alvy (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a couple struggling to conceive. Rachel, a corporate executive deeply embedded in the tech ecosystem, views the Pod as the ultimate liberation—a way to advance her career without the physical toll of pregnancy. Alvy, a botanist and naturalist, is initially horrified by the concept, viewing it as a severance of the profound biological bond between mother and child.
Everyone’s doing it. That was the problem. The Pod Generation
This role reversal allows the film to explore how the "natural" has become radicalized. In a society where convenience is the highest virtue, wanting to experience morning sickness or natural labor is seen as a deviant, even disgusting, form of self-harm. There is a particularly jarring scene where Alvin takes Rachel to a "primitive pregnancy" support group, where women who reject the pod gather in a dirty basement to share horror stories about swollen ankles. The scene is hilarious and tragic, highlighting how quickly biological norms can be recoded as counter-culture. The film follows Rachel (Emilia Clarke) and Alvy
The baby was small — too small, really — but her eyes were open, and her mouth was working, and she was crying , a thin, furious wail that filled the room. Everyone’s doing it
