Crucial note for Grade 6: Examiners will listen for evenness of tone, not just correct notes. Your thumb should not play louder than your third finger.

Why is this grade so significant? Unlike Grades 1-5, Grade 6 (along with Grades 7 and 8) carries UCAS points in the United Kingdom, directly contributing to university admission scores. Furthermore, it requires the successful completion of (or Grade 5 Practical Musicianship or Jazz) as a prerequisite. This ensures that candidates at this level understand how music works, not just how to press the right keys.

Candidates must choose three pieces (one from each List: A, B, and C). For Performance Grades, a fourth "own-choice" piece of at least Grade 6 standard is also required.
