From a very young age, Ramanuja displayed extraordinary intelligence and a deep inclination toward spirituality. He mastered the Vedas, the Vedangas, and various other scriptures under the tutelage of his father. However, his life took a sharp turn with the death of his father when Ramanuja was still young. Following the tradition, he moved to Kanchipuram, a bustling center of learning and religious activity, to continue his education under Yadavaprakasha, a renowned scholar of the time.
Under Periya Nambi, Ramanuja mastered the Vedas, the Upanishads, and the six Vedangas. By his late teens, Ramanuja had a razor-sharp intellect and a photographic memory. He married, as per custom, to a woman named Rakshakambal (or Thanjamambal, according to some texts), and settled into a householder's life.
