However, there is a crucial technical tweak. Motion picture film has a layer of (a carbon anti-halation backing) to prevent light from bouncing around inside a movie camera’s gate. For still cameras, this backing can cause jams and processing issues. Cinestill removes this Rem-Jet layer. The result? A film that is safe to process in standard C-41 black-and-white chemistry (or traditional black-and-white chems) but with a unique side effect: glowing halation .
