Persona 5 The Animation Episode 17 Review

The episode builds toward a major decision, but the final revelation (the target being related to a previous Palace ruler’s cognition) comes and goes without much emotional punch. Non-game players may be confused.

The turning point occurs when Futaba faces her own within the Palace. Through a poignant dialogue, she realizes that the "suicide note" she believed her mother left was a fabrication used by manipulative adults to blame her for Wakaba’s death. Persona 5 the Animation Episode 17

Ann, Ryuji, and Yusuke get very little to do beyond nodding and agreeing with Makoto’s plans. While this is true to the game’s linear plot, the anime could have given them more reactive lines to keep their personalities present. The episode builds toward a major decision, but
