Internet Recovery is a lifesaver, but it is slow. It requires a robust internet connection to download the entire operating system (often 6GB to 12GB) on the fly. If the connection drops, the process fails. A USB drive created with contains the installer locally, allowing you to install the OS significantly faster, typically in under 30 minutes.
While DiskMaker cannot bypass a firmware lock on its own, a bootable USB created by DiskMaker can be used to boot into Recovery tools that might help reset NVRAM or access Terminal for advanced diagnostics.
Once it finds High Sierra, it will ask if you want to use that file. Click "Use this copy."
High Sierra was the last version of macOS to support many older MacBook and iMac models, and it introduced the APFS file system. Having a reliable 7.0.1 bootable drive ensures you can recover these systems without relying on an internet connection or "Internet Recovery," which can often fail on older machines.
