Keller’s book is a shield against the epidemic of learned helplessness. It reminds us that while we may not be responsible for our problems, we are responsible for our response.
You cannot control the first thought that enters your head (the reflex), but you can control the second thought (the response). When a negative thought appears— "I’m going to bomb this presentation" —Keller advises you to physically visualize a light switch and flip it.
