The actual extraction took 18 hours. A five-man team rappelled 200 feet down a wet cliff face, crossed the same river that had swept her away, and found her unconscious but alive in the hollow log. Her core body temperature was 90°F. Her pulse was 45 BPM. The paramedic later said, "She had about six hours left."
