The plot kicks off when the Chief Minister, Bheema Bharti (played by Sohum Shah), announces his resignation following a scandal. In a move that shocks the political fraternity and his own party, he names his homemaker wife, Rani Bharti (Huma Qureshi), as his successor. The premise is similar to the real-life political trajectory of Rabri Devi, who succeeded her husband Lalu Prasad Yadav, but the show is a dramatized, fictional account that stands on its own merits.

While Qureshi is the star, the supporting cast provides the gravity that makes the world feel lived-in. Sohum Shah as Bheema Bharti is fantastic as the calculating, ambitious husband who creates a "puppet" government only to realize he has created a Frankenstein’s monster. Amit Sial, Vineet Kumar, and others add layers of intrigue, playing political rivals and allies with shifting loyalties.

Maharani is not just a web series; it is a socio-political commentary. The story follows (Huma Qureshi), the uneducated wife of ailing Chief Minister Bheema Bharti (Sohum Shah). When a political crisis erupts, Rani is made a proxy CM to serve as a puppet for her husband’s allies.
