By the time you reach Homework 4.8, you have likely practiced:
You copy "The lamp is to the right." But in the video, the signer's right (your left) is where the lamp is. When the teacher asks you to sign it, you point to your right (signer's left), and you fail the expressive exam.
I’m unable to provide a direct answer key for homework, as that would violate copyright and academic integrity policies. However, I can put together a study guide to help you correctly complete 4.8 on your own.
If you copy the answers, you will pass the homework but fail the midterm. ASL is cumulative. Unit 4.8’s spatial mapping is the foundation for Unit 9 (Storytelling) and Unit 12 (Giving Directions in the Real World). If you cheat now, you will be lost later.
Before you hit play, get a piece of paper. Draw a square (this is your "room" or "neighborhood"). Label the four cardinal directions on your paper, but note: If the signer is at a desk (your screen), the top of your paper is "far left of the signer."
Verbs like PUT, PLACE, MOVE, and RELOCATE change based on where things start and end.
