Upon launching Photoshop CC 2017, users were greeted with a revamped Start Screen. Instead of a blank gray canvas, they were presented with a library of templates. These ranged from photo collage layouts to social media graphics and website mockups. This feature was aimed at democratizing design—allowing a user with less technical skill to open a pre-made template and simply swap images.

This was the "magic" feature of the year. A designer could take a photo of a street sign, a menu, or a movie poster, and use the Match Font tool to identify the font used. Leveraging Adobe Sensei (Adobe’s artificial intelligence engine), the software would analyze the shapes of the letters and suggest matching fonts from the user’s library or Adobe Typekit (now Adobe Fonts).
