The chapter opens with Kael waking up in a white room. But is it the same Kael? He remembers dying in Chapter 2, yet here he is, breathing. Doux introduces a revolutionary device: —a backup of Kael’s consciousness created the moment he first made the Back Door Connection. The narrative splits into dual columns on the page: left column is Real Kael (still imprisoned); right column is Ghost Kael (roaming a simulated afterlife).
